JS10 Overview, How and Why of Opting In Contacts

EngageMore CRM is a Permission-Based Email and Text system! One of the reasons you may have moved into this CRM may possibly be because you feel you were having email deliverability issues in your past CRM.  That is because you, or other subscribers in that CRM system, may have abused the rules of emailing. In today's world of email, the email service providers are preventing your email from getting into the inbox or simply won't send the email if it appears you could be "SPAMMING" a list of contacts that did not give you permission to email them.  On top of that, you could be seriously fined for violating laws that were created to protect the consumers against spamming.

To better understand the rules of emailing in the US and Europe, be sure that you have reviewed the United States Canned Spam Act and the European Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Your local states/municipalities within the US may also have additional laws so be sure you understand the local laws that will pertain to you. Even if you don't live or work in the US or Europe you could be emailing people who do, and thus, you could be subject to these strict laws!

In this very Important lesson, we will talk about how the Permission-Based email system works here inside of your CRM. Don't worry though, getting permission to email people is not as bad as you may be thinking!!!  You probably don't even realize that the majority of your leads and prospects have already given you permission.

Watch this lesson to learn and understand what is considered "permission," how to manually opt-in a lead you add to the database and how you can request permission and how people are handled when they opt-out or you opt them out.   In a future lesson, we will show you how to opt-in a list you imported with a click.

The email address colors in your system include:

Green - opted in to receive email
Orange - you manually opted them out
Grey -  not yet attempted to opt in
Blue - pending request sent to contact to opt-in
Yellow - bounced email
Red - contact unsubscribed (opted out) on their own from a link in your email

To opt in a single manually-added contact, click the email address. If you are getting leads automatically added via an Integration or landing page, you will have a tutorial on how to do this automatically in later training.

To opt-in the phone number to receive texts, click Edit Contact and then the box next to the cell number.  The first Cell number in the list of four numbers will be the number that will receive a text if you text or if you send a text within a drip campaign.   We suggest you add the cell number to the first line, but it doesn't matter where you add it, as long as you understand that first Cell number in the list is the one that will receive the text from this contact card.  If you have spouse that you want to receive a text and email, we suggest you add the spouse as a separate contact and add a Tag that there is a Spouse in the system.

P.S.  The last number space is for a fax (if anyone is using that any more... ha, ha)
